Too cold because you can’t afford Hydro Bill?….. Ontario Government says: “wear a sweater!”

Posted: February 5, 2014 in Uncategorized

From the sublime to the ridiculous!

That’s about the only way that the following “News Release” from the Ontario Government can be described!

Not only is this Government INSULTING the Citizens of Ontario but they seem to think that we are an uneducated and incapable group of people who need to be told to wear warmer clothes if you are too cold, and in turn will solve the fake Global Warming crisis that “they” dreamed up during a really bad over-medicated and bizarre state of mind with help from the U.N. and the Al Gore’s of the world!

The arrogance of these less-than-human individuals is beyond belief!

Ontario’s answer to your electricity woes: put on a sweater

The Ontario government just announced a wonderful tactic for all Ontario families suffering with higher electricity bills, bills that are expected to go up by at least 42 percent in the next few years. manufacturing jobs lost, communities being affected forever by invasive wind power plants…here is the answer.

NEWS RELEASE – Ontario Government

Protecting the Environment One Sweater at a Time

February 5, 2014 10:00 a.m.

Ministry of the Environment

Ontario is encouraging everyone to help fight climate change by making smart choices about energy use.
On Feb. 6, 2014, Ontario is joining WWF-Canada for National Sweater Day, which encourages Canadians to conserve energy. Ontarians can play an important role in fighting climate change by:

  • Putting on a sweater and turning down the thermostat. If every Canadian turned down their thermostat in the winter we could save 2.2 megatonnes of carbon dioxide per year — equal to taking 350,000 cars off the road.
  • Using less water. There is a close connection between water use and energy use. Many pumps and equipment are needed to get water to your home and to heat it up.
  • Replacing all those old light bulbs with new compact fluorescents or LED lights. They last and last and save you money too.
  • Installing power bars for your appliances and turning them off when not in use.

Ontario is also making major strides against climate change by closing all coal-fired electricity plants by the end of 2014. The proposed Ending Coal for Cleaner Air Act would ensure that once coal facilities stop operating, coal-burning generation on the electricity grid will never happen again.
Protecting the environment while providing clean, reliable and affordable power is part of the government’s plan to invest in people, build modern infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate across Ontario.

Quick Facts

  • By the end of 2014, Ontario will be the first jurisdiction in North America to eliminate coal as a source of electricity production.
  • Closing the dirty coal-fired Lambton and Nanticoke plants one year ahead of schedule is saving the province’s electricity customers $95 million through reduced project and maintenance costs.
  • Replacing coal with cleaner generation, renewables and conservation will reduce Ontario emissions by up to 30 megatonnes per year and reduce the carbon footprint from electricity use by 75 per cent.

Jim Bradley

“Just one act symbolizes the difference we can all make in fighting climate change.

Simple actions like turning down the thermostat and wearing a sweater demonstrate we are all united in tackling this environmental challenge.”

Jim Bradley

Minister of the Environment

Bob Chiarelli

“Ontarians are benefitting from a clean, reliable and affordable energy system. As we plan for our future energy needs, conservation will be the first resource considered. Conservation is environmentally friendly and it can help lower our electricity bills.”

Bob Chiarelli

Minister of Energy

“Getting serious about tackling climate change means getting serious about energy conservation. The good news is that there are practical solutions that individuals, communities and our leaders can help drive. It is great to see so many people coming together to show their commitment to saving energy and fighting climate change.”

  1. Kat Markland says:

Well, I’m back again! It appears that Hydro One has conveniently waited for the United Way of Canada to raise more funds to help those in need! Just in time to change all of my information in their records once again! Every year my low income status mysteriously changes and the games begin again. Always, just before the holidays! Merry Christmas to you too Hydro One!

After sending me to LEAP, Hydro One gladly takes the money and alters my records again!! Like LEAP’s payment on my behalf miraculously healed me! I’m no longer disabled again until I prove it again!!!! The mental stress alone has worn me down to nothing and I’m afraid if this keeps up, I will not be able to deal with it. I’m sooooo very tired of being bullied by Hydro One!!!!!

I went to the LEAP Program which is a ONE TIME assistance aid Publicly Funded through United Way! Hydro One sent me a long letter regarding their guidelines. First they’ll tell you that Canada Pension Disability is NOT a Government Agency!? Hello? Excuse me?! And they have the gall to put that in writing! Wow! I’m simply dumbfounded. Then they tell us low income customers to go to a Government Funded Program for assistance and they tell you to go to LEAP?! LEAP is NOT run by any Government Agency! Another Crock! And no one seems to care that they are playing with words and lies of the most extreme and profound type! Using public funding to line their pockets!!

Hydro One states that once recognized by a “Government Agency” such as LEAP?! NOT CPP but ODSP or Social Services, we will then be continuously recognized as low income and they will make the necessary changes to our status. Mine in particular. Oh yes, they most certainly did. For an entire 3 – 4 months! Then, as it has every year for the past 4 or 5 years my information mysteriously reverts back to reflect middle of the month payments, debt retirement, overdue/late charges etc. Absolutely NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!! I PROMISE YOU I WILL NOT BE ANY LESS DISABLED TOMORROW MORNING OR THE NEXT AFTER THAT!!

They once again are demanding full payment, threatening me to disconnect and telling me once again to “put on a sweater”. I’ve had enough!!!! Here’s what I’ve been doing to conserve hydro. If Hydro One can tell me to do anything else that I am absolutely certain that they themselves are not practicing, I’ll be absolutely amazed.

    Hydro Cost Cutting Measures:

    Energy Saving Bulbs throughout home!
ALL Windows covered with plastic inside and out!
Hot Water valve off so as not to lose a drop and have the tank overwork itself.
Showers, Laundry, Dishes, Vacuuming and other chores after 7pm!
Use the first good snow to start banking my entire house!
    Thermostat set for 68 degrees!
Woolly pyjamas, housecoat, sweater, leggings, blankets etc!
I DON’T USE MY OVEN! Can’t afford to by food to cook anyway!!
Use Candles and Oil Lamps despite dangers for light and heat that can’t be given by a flashlight!!
Unplug everything not in use every night!! Stay unplugged until after use then unplugged again!
Carpet and runners on floors for extra insulation!
Use propane burner to heat water!!
I am Unable to unplug stove and laundry machines as I am disabled!!!

While I take pain staking measures to cut the cost of my hydro while disabled and in need of this service, hydro big wigs are roasty toasty in their boxing shorts leaving every light in the house on and unplugging only the hair dryer or curling iron when they are done!! The poorest people are the ones who are making the attempts to reduce their own utility bills which in turn is helping conserve the overall consumption and yet we are still getting hit year after year after year!!

Hydro One increases alone contribute to the rising cost of living above the annual cost of living allowance each year!! Here’s a thought, Why don’t they offer the low income customers these new and improved methods of producing hydro. Offering them the money to help reduce their overall hydro costs? Nope, that won’t work because we may not have a big beautiful home to prop those solar panels on! Isn’t that right Hydro One?

Hydro One offers a hydro assessment and home improvement program to assist people who may be losing vital energy due to poor insulation, roof leaks, windows and faulty wiring or other issues, but they fail to tell anyone about it. If you happen to spot the website than you may be in luck, but if you don’t, don’t expect them to tell you about it. Too bad they didn’t have the fore sight to allow us the opportunity to fill out and electronically sign the paperwork so as we could take advantage of this program. Once again, they make it that much more complicated and time consuming for those who may not have a printer to print off their documents. Tsk Tsk

The new Hydro rebate program offers only $30/mth for someone in my situation. Hydro One will suck that up and incur more in additional charges. Once again, it does little to offer any sort of relief. They say that they will automatically put it on the bill and Hydro One will adjust our records to reflect status of Low Income, however they continue to modify those records without any prior authorization, notification, justification or reason. They simply play dumb when you call and ask why this keeps happening. “I don’t know” they’ll say. “We haven’t changed anything”, they say.

Quite honestly, I believe that one of the criteria for working for Hydro One is desensitizing their employees, teaching them the art of lying through their teeth and passing you off to mid air!!! But they’ll spend all the time and money in the world to send disconnect notices, payment demands and “put a sweater on”, notices!!!

And we wonder why people go “Postal”! They won’t be happy until we’re all dead and buried. Then they’ll dance and clap and rejoice for they won’t have to help anyone but them selves. Oh wait, they’re already doing that, aren’t they?

    Still Cold, Hungry and Disabled…….

Regardless of your mysteriously changing records Hydro One!!

  2. Kathy says:

I am on a disability pension of just $844/mth. I have lost 40lbs in less than 2 months because hydro is taking the food out of my mouth. I can not use my stove to cook good meals, my hot water tank is off, I can’t wear any more warmer clothes and am freezing because of the Hydro bills.

I am constantly bullied by Hydro One despite paying them the required equal billing amount they requested. They know my situation and simply don’t care at all!! I am the apitomy of conservative and can’t do anything else to conserve hydro and yet they Liberals (rich) continue to allow prices to rise without offering low income Canadians and contributors any type of assistance or discount and threaten regularly to turn off my hydro if I don’t pay the entire bill every month.

My hydro consumption is at least 58% less than the delivery charge and the 10% Energy Clean discount offers little because of the delivery charges. For myself, hydro is a vital necessity as I suffer from back and neck injuries as a result of a MVA in 2005. Starving myself hasn’t helped at all and my mental health is deteriorating due to the tremendous stress implemented by the vital necessity giant!

I’m hungry, cold and completely broken because of Hydro and they simply don’t care. There is no humanity within these people and when you talk to customer service they treat you like shit as if it’s coming out of their personal pocket.

Hydro One has crossed the line by telling low income people to go to other private organizations to get the money to give to them. These resources were developed by human beings that still care about other human beings and yet their resources are being depleted to pay Hydro.

Food Banks don’t have much to offer because no one can afford to think about any one other than themselves and their families so they can not contribute, but rather stand in line with the rest of us. Hydro One has contributed to the strain on the economy by forcing people out of their homes and on to the street because they can’t afford anything any more, much less hydro. But they firmly believe that they are entitled to screw over low income Canadians because it’s not their fault that we are in the position we’re in.

While it may not be their fault, it remains an act of decency, humanity and morality that they know little to nothing about. They have taken good human beings and BULLIED them into submission and poverty and it’s only getting worse!!!

I was once a hard working Canadian who helped those in need and now I am in need and no one will help me. That doesn’t surprise me as the Liberals rule the economy with money and don’t care about the little guys who made it possible for them to be where they are today. We have been long forgotten and are being punished for not having money.

Suicide, Depression and Major Stress is on the rise mainly due to people not being able to afford the cost of LIVING! LIFE is NOT worth living when you have to struggle to keep your head above water each and every day. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to LIVE here anymore!! Why are they allowed to be the concrete that holds us down?!!!

They are a direct contributor to the crisis that exists today and refuse to admit any wrong doing. The Liberals (Justin Trudeau) made it perfectly clear when he publicly outed low income Canadians with his statement that he will work hard for middle class and upper class Canadians. Fuck the rest of you!!!

Many low income Canadians were once strong, independent contributors and are now weak, poor and broken and filling up beds or holes in the ground because they have been forgotten or told to look elsewhere for help. This is unacceptable for any human being which begs the question “Who or What made it okay for them to destroy the lives of others with their greed? They talk about ethics, moral obligation and humanity but there is none for those of us who need it most. They’d sooner take their billion dollar profits and line their own pockets while the rest of us freeze, starve and ultimately die — broken and hopeless.

Hydro One has little to offer us except heartache, pain, ridicule, judgment and condemnation. This world we live in isn’t a good decent place anymore and I for one will become a statistic like the rest of those who have had no recourse but to leave this Earth knowing that no one who really matters cares about me or anyone like me.

What is deemed acceptable today was once considered acts of prejudice, hatred, selfishness and greed and wasn’t even considered an moral, humanitarian option. This is what the world has become and this is the end of humanity as it was once. Low income people have only each other to lean on in this world now.

Your welcome Hydro One, I’m so happy that we (low income) people were able to help you achieve your success. Now shove it up your ass, but don’t turn the light on, you might see things for what they really truly are! Disgraceful!!

Sincerely Under Your Thumb, Cold, Hungry and Broken
    Kathy Markland
    Thomasburg, Ontario

I am giving you every penny that I have and you still continue to threaten me! Check your records, I continue to pay you your equal billing payments while I go without food, warmth, self respect, dignity and faith in this world and those of you who think you’re above all others. I hope you sleep well tonight because we can’t. It’s hard to sleep when you/re cold and hungry!!!!

  3. Anonymous says:

are you wearing a sweater chiarelli. your an ass hole

  4. salal says:

Recently Hydro customers were told they did too well in conserving. Thus, Hydro had to increase off peak hour usage too. Apparently not enough revenue was coming in to pay for their high dollar help.

  5. 1957chev says:

If I put on only a sweater, over my clothes, I would freeze. How about coat and warm socks with slippers as well. Or wrapped in a blanket, beside the fire, when possible. They are disgusting animals to do this to us. I hate the Liberals’ bull$hit agenda.
