Smart this and Smart that……….you’ve heard the term used so frequently that now it’s just part of your day to day!
Smart Meters, Smart Cars, Smart Phones, Smart Cities………………you get the idea.
Basically this turd all wrapped up with a Green ribbon is still a turd!
It’s the stuff this Provincial Government has gotten away with for over 10 years and is still “trying” to get away with. BUT!………………the day of reckoning has come. People are now wondering why their “smart hydro bills” are doubled……why their “smart cars” don’t work!………….why their “smart homes” are so expensive that they can’t afford them………………and here’s the BIG ONE……………why does “Smart Living” mean living in a 350 square foot apartment down in the heart of an urban environment next to your job, not exactly what you had on your mind when you got married, had two children and have to keep two jobs going to afford this nightmare?
Smart Growth is another term for “Gulag Living”! China is a prime example and one must question why a bevy of Ontario Mayors and Councillors at this very moment have gone to China as part of a “Trade Delegation” sponsored by the Ontario Government? What are they going to “Trade”?………….our land?…………most are from farming communities where people still live in single family dwellings which is frowned on by the Greenies who want everyone crammed into a cave heating their food over candles.
Who paid for these Mayors and Councillors trip? IF an outside source has financed any part of their trip then they are actually breaking the LAW……….in fact charges of Treason wouldn’t be a far fetched idea!
Peter Shawn Taylor: High-density living has become the officially preferred form of abode. Tim Fraser for National Post
Where city planners once actively discouraged downtown development and sought to push all growth to city outskirts, today the exact opposite policy is in place
Perhaps aspiring homeowners should blame Plato. Ever since the ancient Greek philosopher’s republic presented his vision of a perfect city run by an elite intelligentsia who alone can appreciate true beauty, eager bureaucrats and politicians have schemed of ways to ignore the desires of untutored common folk in their own pursuit of so-called perfection. These days, of course, the philosopher-kings go by a different name. Urban planners.
The most recent iteration of Plato’s struggle against democracy, markets and other avenues of popular input can be found in efforts to curb urban sprawl and thus frustrate the wishes of hopeful young home buyers.
Where city planners once actively discouraged downtown development and sought to push all growth to city outskirts, today the exact opposite policy is in place. Now the popular and traditional suburb full of single family homes is to be turned into an exception rather than the rule. Density requirements limiting access to new “green field” suburban developments are meant to artificially push up the price of existing single family homes under a planning doctrine known as Smart Growth. High-density living has become the officially preferred form of abode.
Sprawl pits Smart Growth planners and politicians against developers who simply want to build what people want to buy
While this scenario may suit anyone already eager for condo life, it’s a far cry from the expressed dreams of the vast majority of Canadians. For young families in particular it’s a nightmare. Whether they’re pushing sprawl or attempting to limit it, consumer choice has always been irrelevant to the planner-tariat.
The current battle over sprawl pits Smart Growth planners and politicians against developers who simply want to build what people want to buy. In Calgary, for example, the mayor recently feuded with local home builders over the city’s plan to severely curtail suburban single family home development in order to funnel the vast majority of new arrivals into the downtown core.
