Rural Ontario Association of Municipalities try and tell Municipal Councils how to act!

The Rural Ontario Association of Municipalities (ROMA)  are hosting their yearly Open Roads Conference on Feb. 25/2012 where all 440+ Municipal Councils meet to discuss issues that affect Rural Communities across Ontario.

Their Object is as follows:

“ROMA agrees with and will promote the AMO By-laws and will attempt to provide an
effective avenue for the expression of the rural municipal view-point to other levels of
government and other appropriate bodies.”

At this years meeting there is a movement afoot for Councils to WALK OUT on Dalton McGuinty when he mounts the podium to deliver his Saturday morning epitaph on how he and his gang have “governed” Rural Ontario and what he has planned for the upcoming year.

As you can see above that this body is to “provide an effective avenue of expression of the rural municipal view-point to the other levels of government and their appropriate bodies”…………….

Which brings us to the crux of issue. Dalton McGuinty with his passing of his un-democratic Bill 150 called the Green Energy Act has basically destroyed Rural Ontario! He lost his majority control of Government over this issue in October 2010 by having his Rural MPP’s thrown to the curb by the Rural Voters! He is still unleashing his idiotic and destructive Industrialization of Rural Ontario as we speak.

In retaliation of these destructive and anti democratic actions Councils of Rural Onatrio are about to exercise their “avenue of expression of the rural municipal point of view” at the upcoming ROMA confrence by getting out of their seats and turning their backs on Dalton McGuinty when he arrives.

I can think of no better way to show their contempt and outrage over how this Government has rendered Rural Ontario as a Wind Turbine wasteland!

NOW ROMA Executives are issuing an edict from on high that they do not want the Rural Councils to walk out on Dalton McGuinty and have issued a formal statement which follows.

One thing ROMA Execs seem to misunderstand and must be made crystal clear. They are only in existence to SERVE the interests of the Municipalities! Period! Not the other way around as Dalton McGuinty has come to believe. McGuinty believes that once elected that the PEOPLE and MUNICIPALITIES work for him! Obviously he has convinced ROMA that is also the case for them!

From ROMA

Feb. 22/2012

To all members and Conference delegates,
In recent weeks, opponents of the Green Energy Act, and wind power in particular, have
proposed that delegates walk‐out on Premier McGuinty at the 2012 ROMA OGRA
Conference, unless a moratorium is placed on wind turbines. While ROMA appreciates the
concern and frustration that inspired this proposal, it believes the proposal is short‐sighted.
We invited the Premier to our conference, we appreciate his decision to come, and we will
respectfully listen to what he has to say.
As a group, Ontario’s municipalities have worked very hard over many years to build a
relationship with the Government of Ontario that is based on open doors and frank
discussion. The mature and respectful relationship that makes these exchanges possible
provides us with our greatest opportunity to achieve meaningful progress.
Currently, municipalities are working with the Province, and the Premier, to address
pressing challenges for all Ontarians, and for rural and northern communities in particular.
These include a global recession; economic development; the continued commitment to
upload $1.5 billion in annual provincial costs by 2018; the future of the Ontario Municipal
Partnership Fund (OMPF); funding for roads and bridges; the rising costs of emergency
services; and more than 100 fiscal restraint recommendations within the recent Drummond
report.
Ontario residents are counting on us all to work cooperatively and productively. The ROMA
OGRA Conference plays an important role by encouraging open channels of communication
between our provincial and municipal governments. That is why we invite the Premier
each year, that is why he accepts, and that is why Ontario Premiers will always be welcome
at our Conference.
Sincerely,
ROMA’s Board of Directors
